Hi, Im Ged Byrne. As a person-centred counsellor I give you a safe space to talk so we can work together to find whats right for you. Counselling sessions can help you take back control of the issues impacting you through making sense of your emotions, understanding why you feel the way you do and recognising how feelings affect you. It can feel as though what youre experiencing is a mountain to climb or that the path youre on is rocky, but we can walk it together.
About me and my practice
Our lives can be busy; whether its work, relationships or something thats happened to us, we often dont give ourselves the space and time to look after our wellbeing. Sometimes its enough to chat things over with a friend or family member but, when our worries are too much or everything is overwhelming, working with a counsellor can help us move forward.
It can feel difficult to ask for support but you have taken the key first step in choosing a therapist. I can offer a confidential, non-judgemental space to explore the issues that matter to you.
You can contact me for a free 30 minute session to see if counselling is right for you. My primary approach is person-centred but I can use a range of tools and techniques, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), to support you in the way which works best for you.
I am a member of both the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS). These are governing bodies for counsellors and provide the ethical framework which ensures I work to professional standards.
Experience
As a counsellor I have helped adults to deal with a wide range of problems and concerns affecting them. I also have extensive experience of working with vulnerable young people and children in schools, colleges, within the criminal justice system and those in care. I take a creative approach to support children and young people to engage with therapy.
I have worked within statutory and third sector agencies, including Local Authority Therapeutic Services and the Children and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS). As well as running Twelve Peaks Counselling, I also current work with the Noahs Ark Centre in Halifax.
